Frédéric Cossard ‘Juliénas’ Vin du Beaujolais 2014

Juliénas is a collaboration between Frederic Cossard and two young winemakers in Beaujolais; Kevin Descombes and Damien Coquelet. Frederic Cossard founded Domaine de Chassorney in 1996 following 10 years as a wine merchant. He is renowned as one of the finest natural winemakers in Burgundy, along with developing “homeopathic farming”, a fusion of homeopathy and biodynamics methods for the vineyard and cellar. His wines are celebrated for “extremely pure, clean and straightly express the terroir”.

Winemaking: Grapes are from vines over 70 years old. Fermented with wild yeasts, aged in old barrels for 6 months. No sulphur added, unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes: Transparent garnet in colour with aromas of sour cherry, wild berries, earth and musk. Cranberry, pomegranate, red currant, sour cherry and crushed white peppercorn are glossed by fresh acidity and fun, grippy tannins. Strawberry rhubarb pie along with Brothers Johnson funk comprises the engaging finish. Intriguing, thirst quenching and rather delightful.
