Estate: Founded in 1993 by winemaker and renowned sparkling wine expert Piero Cane, the Marcalberto estate is dedicated to producing only Traditional Method sparkling wines. The 6 hectares of Pinot Nero and Chardonnay vineyards are located in the communes of Santo Stefano Belbo and Calosso, in Asti, in the Piemonte region of northwestern Italy. Today, Piero is joined by his sons, Marco and Alberto.
Winemaking: Vines range in age from 15-30 years, are located 300-550 meters in elevation, with marly-chalky soil. Aged in used wood for about 5 months with weekly stirring on the lees, unfiltered and unclarified, the wine spends an additional 22 months in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: Pale pink-coral in colour with inviting aromas of strawberry, raspberry and traces of fresh buttery bread. Tasting similar to the aromas with raspberry, strawberry and cherry gliding over fine, consistent bubbles. A squeeze of citrus zest compliments buttery toast on the crisp dry finish. Fun, friendly and easy drinking, fantastic on its own or with fresh dishes.
