Estate: Remarkably, the Baron Statti family has been living and farming on the same 500 hectares of land in the Calabria region of southern Italy since 1700. Today, under the leadership of brothers Alberto and Antonio Statti, the estate is one of the top wine producers in Calabria, focusing on a blend of their tradition, native varietals and technological innovation. The 100 hectares of vines are nestled on the back of a hill that protects them from the winds coming off the sea.
Philosophy: Emphasizing their centuries old bond with the land, they believe “a great wine, as well as the nice one, born, first of all, into the vineyard”.
Winemaking: Grapes were sourced from vineyards at 450 feet in elevation, with mixed clay soils. Aged in stainless steel tanks for 3 months.
Tasting Notes: Transparent garnet in colour with aromas of cherry, blueberry, white pepper and a hint of sweet vanilla. An herbaceous streak flirts with cherry, cranberry and crushed pink peppercorn flavours in the medium body. Lingering red fruits and vanilla bean comprise the dry finish. Super silky tannins and well balanced flavors keep you reaching for more.
