Fontaleoni Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2014

A refreshing, out of the ordinary white fantastic with all types of pestos and gamey cheese.

Estate: The Troiani family, a family with winemaking roots dating back many generations, founded Azienda Agricola Fontaleoni in 1959. The vineyards of the small estate are located 200 meters above sea level in the hills of northern San Gimignano, in the Tuscany region of Italy.

Winemaking: Although not certified, the estate practices organic and sustainable viticulture methods. Chemical fertilizers or insecticides are not used; organic fertilizers and disease control treatments are used only when “strictly necessary”. Cover crops play a large roll in fertilizing and protecting the vineyards. Extremely low doses of sulphur are added to the wines. Grapes for the Vernaccia di San Gimignano were sourced from vineyards planted in 1980. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged for at least 3 months in the bottle.

Tasting Notes: Pale gold in colour with delicate aromas of lemon and Mediterranean herbs. A savoury pine nut element is incorporated into the creamy lemon and nuances of pear, whilst complimentary honeysuckle and clean minerals comprise the dry finish.
