Feudi di Santa Tresa ‘Purato’ Nero d’Avola IGP 2013

Soft and easy drinking with lovely fruit and earth notes enveloped in sweet honey accents, a nice backdrop for hearty dishes.

Estate: Feudo di Santa Tresa estate is owned by Stefano Girelli and consists of about 50 hectares of vineyards. Located in Vittoria, southern Sicily, the estate dates back to 1697, and has consistently been producing wine since then. Promoting an organic, sustainable ecosystem, the estate focuses their “attention on nature, in order to emphasize its qualities, rather than exploiting or modifying it”. They are committed “to championing local indigenous grape varieties”. In addition they have recently introduced a local Sicilian bee species to the estate, which will aid in natural pollination. All of the packaging is recycled and free of chemicals, right down to the vegetable based ink on the recycled label.

Philosophy: To “work in harmony with nature to make expressive, organic wines full of Sicilian character and soul”.

Winemaking: Certified organic, the family grown grapes are cultivated using sustainable, time honoured methods such as cover crops and natural herbicides.

Tasting Notes: Dark garnet in colour with aromas of warm, summer earth, golden raisin and honey. Cherry and plum flavours glided atop an undercurrent of rich raisin and earth notes, soft tannins, pink peppercorn, honey and hints of vanilla comprised the lengthy finish.
