Focused and earnest, a fantastically expressive Tuscan red blend.
Estate: Founded in 2001, Poggio Mandorlo is the brainchild of 4 longtime friends Roberto, Felice, Giuseppe and Fabio. The 94 acre estate is located at the foot of the extinct volcano Monte Amiata in the Montecucco DOC of Tuscany. The estate has become known for crafting wines with “strong structure and bold intensity”, yet displaying an “elegant nature”.
Philosophy: To passionately explore and promote “their beloved land”.
Winemaking: Grapes were sourced from a 17 acre vineyard planted between 2000 and 2002.
Tasting Notes: Dark garnet in colour with aromas of wild blueberry and earth. Herbaceous hints of thyme and sage flirted with lush blackberry, blueberry and tart cherry flavours, whilst black peppercorn, leather and woodsy elements elongated the delightfully dry finish.
Pairing Suggestions from the Winemaker: Aged cheeses, “imposing dishes of pasta”, along with “extremely complex dishes of red meats and sauces enriched by herbs, roasted or braised red meats”.
To Purchase: Demand was so high that it is currently out of stock! Wine Chateau expects to have more in stock soon, so check back at their site here: Poggio Mandorlo Maremma Toscana IGT 2008
