Winery: Cantina di Montalcino was founded in 1975 and is located in the hilly region of Montalcino in Tuscany, central Italy. Acquired by the Cantine Leonardo cooperative in 1990, Cantina di Montalcino is the oldest cooperative in the area. Today it consist of 100 growers with 395 acres of vineyards, with the majority of their electricity usage “self-produced through a photovoltaic supply system”.
Winemaking: Grapes were sourced from the Poggio del Sasso vineyards just outside of the Montalcino area, and aged for 2-3 months in second year usage French barriques.
Tasting Notes: Brick garnet in colour with aromas of dusty earth, leather and wildflowers. Light and silky smooth with tart cherry resting on a backbone of dry tannins, nuances of white pepper and licorice construct the dry finish.
