Pico Maccario Villa della Rosa Barbera d’Asti 2013

Straightforward with a fantastic balance of tart fruit and soft earthy spice making this a delicious pairing with a wide variety of dishes.

Estate: Founded by brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario in 1997 with the land they inherited from their grandfather, the estate is located on the hillsides in the province of Asti 600 feet above sea level. The 70 hectare vineyard is one single, contiguous parcel and is the largest single-block vineyard in the entire Piedmont region. The rose is the symbol of their winery; there are over 4500 rose bushes on the estate, all of the same clone, and one planted at the head of each vine row. According to the brothers, the rose symbolizes “the twin themes of passion and rebirth, it has been said that it possesses the virtue of being able to repair the damage done while drunk and by the indiscreet, revelatory consequences of the alcohol”.

Winemaking: Aged in steel for 7 months then in the bottle for 5 more months.

Tasting Notes: Bright garnet in colour with aromas of strawberry, floral and hints of warm baking spices. Strawberry, cherry along with nuances of sour cherry are supported by a bright acidity, traces of earth and black cherry linger on the clean, dry finish.
