A little weightier then past vintages, a good value that can be enjoyed on its own or with a wide variety of dishes. [It was lovely with roasted heirloom carrots, super cheesy radiatori and BBQ veggieburger]
Winery: Cycles Gladiator is a brand of the fantastic Hahn Family of Wines. They created the accessible, value label to pay tribute to the spirit of freedom and happiness that pervaded Europe in the late 19th century, known for its many “inventions and improvements to daily life”. Both the Cycles Winery and Visitor Center are located in one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in Lodi. [There is a banner on the Cycles website that now states: “Cycles is under new management and more information will be coming soon.”]
Winemaking: The grapes are sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Lodi appellation and comply with The Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing. The Hahn family emphasizes soil and water health, biodiversity and employee well being.
Tasting Notes: Brilliant red-violet in colour with soft aromas of cigar box spice and wildflowers. Subtle earth notes framed black cherry and cranberry flavours, whilst cracked black pepper, brown sugar and hints of oak comprised the plush finish.
Pinot Noir [I could not verify varietal percentage, past vintages have been 100% Pinot Noir.]
