Château De Monrepos Bordeaux 2011

Bold flavours with a refined demeanor, this is an engaging Bordeaux fantastic with a wide variety of dishes.

Estate: Catherine Devaud is the 5th generation of the family to head Chateau De Monrepos. Located on the hillside close to Lalande De Pomerol, the 12 hectares of vineyards have a soil composition of chalk and clay that is similar to the terroir in St. Emilion.

Philosophy: The family’s tradition is to craft “wines to respect the fruit.”

Winemaking: Grapes were sourced from vines with an average age of 30 years old. Wine is fermented in thermo regulated concrete tanks in order to “highlight a wine’s pure fruit flavors”, then aged in previously used large French barrels.

Tasting Notes: Dark garnet in colour with aromas of smoky fruit and cigar box spice. Cherry and raspberry flavours were supported by tobacco, earth and hints of vanilla, whilst crushed black peppercorn, traces of smoky cedar and dried cherry comprised the plush finish.

I located two different varietal percentages; I assume that the different listings stem from the blend changing depending on harvest each vintage:
1. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc
2. 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc
Mis en Bouteille au Chateau
12.5% Alcohol
Enjoy now thru 2016
