Focused and clear, with plush fruit and dense earth, this is an enjoyable companion to a wide variety of dishes.
Estate: The name Du Cropio translates to “doctor of agronomy” in the local dialect and reflects the long history of grape growing the Ippolito family has in the area. The 30 hectare family estate is located in a remote, rocky region of Calabria, southern Italy.
Winemaking: The vineyards are farmed organically, along with some being worked by horse and plow. The wines are left unfiltered and unrefined.
Tasting Notes: Dark garnet in color with aromas of baked fruits along with hints of earthy, barnyard funk. Lush blackberry and cherry flavors rode atop a woodsy undercurrent of tobacco and leather elements, whilst crushed black peppercorn, sweet raisin and traces of bitter chocolate comprised the moderate finish.
100% Gaglioppo [From the importer: “On occasion perhaps 5% Greco Nero may find its way into the blend”]
