Racemi ‘Anarkos’ Puglia Rosso 2012

anarkos

A modern style red blend from southern Italy with an authoritative mix of concentrated fruit, peppery spice and rich coffee notes.

A pioneering concept in winemaking, it is easier to categorize what Racemi is not, rather then what it is. Created by Gregory Perruci, Racemi is located in Puglia, southern Italy and is not a cooperative winery, and Perruci does not act as a negociant. “He has simply joined a number of small farms under his umbrella to promote the survival of the areas’s winemaking and growing traditions.” These small farms are comprised of vineyards that were abandoned after World War II and are now being revitalized by traditional farmers growing native varietals.

Philosophy: To focus on “the research, vinification and commercialization of Puglia’s native vineyards and regional varietals”.

Winemaking: The grapes for Anarkos were sourced from the Felline vineyards located in the heart of the Manduria region of Puglia. The vines date back to the 1940’s and are known for producing “complex, concentrated, value driven wines.”

Tasting Notes: Inky red violet in colour with robust aromas of coffee, cigar box spice and wildflowers. Dense black cherry and blackberry flavours harmonized with coffee notes, whilst concentrated black peppercorn, oak, chocolate and golden raisin elements comprised the lengthy finish.
