Alta Luna is a label of the mega-cooperative Cavit Collective. Founded in 1957, the cooperative consists of 5,000 member growers that are organized into 14 associated cellars throughout the Trentino region of northern Italy. Grapes are crushed and vinified at each cellar before being sent on to the Cavit central winery for finishing processes and bottling. The company commands 70% of all wine production in the Trentino region, with an aim of appealing to a “wide range of consumer preferences.” The grapes for Alta Luna were sourced from vineyards located in the hills and foothills of the Adige Valley.
A simple, and somewhat angular red blend with wild berries, red currant and hints of sour cherry assisting a mouth puckering acidity. Earth and chocolate notes provide balance, whilst white pepper and plum notes emerge on the clean finish. A gulpable, easy drinking companion for everyday dishes.
