Orin Swift ‘Palermo’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

My sister and I are huge fans of both the Cougar Town TV show and Orin Swift wines. So it was only a matter of time before one of us picked up ‘Palermo’, the bottle that Courtney Cox’s character Jules is seemingly always pouring. Orin Swift Cellars was founded by winemaker David Phinney in 1998 [Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name]. Today the company has grown into an international brand that includes 300 acres in southwest France yet still remains a small, “passionate team of friends and family dedicated to making great wine”. With an average price of $35, ‘Palermo’ is actually a worthy value since it is crafted from the excess grapes used to make the more expensive ‘Papillon’ and ‘Mercury Head’ wines.

Red-violet in colour, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, vanilla and toasted oak. Vibrant cherry, raspberry and black currant fruits glided atop an undercurrent of oak, vanilla and mocha, whilst crushed pink peppercorn and cinnamon elements comprised the lengthy, spicy finish. Velvety and lush, this is a persuasive glass that keeps you reaching for more [Just watch out for that 15.5% alcohol content!]

83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Franc
Napa Valley
Bottled by Orin Swift Cellars
15.5% Alcohol
$35 [average price]
Enjoy now thru 2021
