Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalon ‘Las Pizarras’ Garnacha 2009

Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalon is a commune of three bodegas that was established with funding by major financial institutions and the Government of Aragón in 1999. Located in the southern Calatayud region, it was initially created in order “to halt the decline of rural life and traditional production with the production of quality wines”. Today the bodega consists of 2400 acres of vineyards along with hundreds of grape growing families that respect the traditions of the area, in addition to applying technological advances to continue improving and developing their vineyards and wines. The grapes for the Garnacha were sourced from vines aged 70-100 years.

Dark red-violet in colour with aromas of blackberry, earth and hints of barnyard funk. Blackberry, plum and tomato leaf flavours comprised the medium body, whilst balsamic, raisin and dried mint lingered between each sip. An inviting display of savoury notes along with fresh fruit elements makes for an interesting table companion.
