Planeta La Segreta Rosso 2011

Snapseed

Although officially only established in 1995, Planeta is actually headed by 17th generation family winemakers. Today in addition to the original family estate dating back to the 17th century, the winery consists of multiple estates located throughout Sicily, each one with a specific sustainable development project. Planeta is renowned for their pioneering spirit and innovation, especially for matching the diverse Sicilian soils to both indigenous and international grape varietals. The name La Segreta is the name of the woods that surrounds their Ulmo vineyard. Planeta Terra is their trademarked mission of sustainability and includes their use and development of renewable energy, landscape conservation, bio-architecture, recycled materials, reduction of carbon footprint and sustainable agriculture. Their goal is to leave a better earth for their children, and to “provide consumers with products which combine aesthetic and tasting qualities with the contribution of ethical nature”. The grapes for La Sagreta Rosso were sourced from the vineyards of Menfi, Sambuca di Sicilia and Noto.

Dark garnet in colour with aromas of cherry, strawberry and dried herbs. Cranberry, cherry and red currant flavours joined smooth dry tannins along with spicy white peppercorn and sweet raisin in the lengthy finish. Well balanced and easy drinking, this is a fantastic companion at the table.
