La Tarasque Côtes du Rhône 2010

La Tarasque Côtes du Rhône is the creation of Aaron Pott, a new generation winemaker and Napa Valley legend [St. Helena Winery, Stagecoach Vineyard, Blackbird Vineyards to name a few] and the only American currently producing wines at a Grand Cru Château in France. The name and label are influenced by a legendary dragon that ravaged the countryside of the Côtes du Rhône during medieval times. Potts explains that he “crafted this wine inspired by the creature coaxed by St. Martha’s hand; unmasking the beast for a spirited wine of complexity and suppleness”. The grapes were sourced from 35 year old vines from 10 different vineyards located in the southern Rhône.

Dark garnet in colour with aromas of blackberry, woods, and white peppercorn. Smooth tannins supported compact flavours of blackberry, tart red currant and plum, whilst rich chocolate and espresso notes comprised the moderate finish. A rather matter of fact Côtes du Rhône, this is a straightforward, pleasant companion for a wide variety of dishes.
