Beaujolais Nouveau is a young wine, aged only for 6 weeks and released the third Thursday of each November. It’s wonderfully fresh, fruity, light-bodied and very food friendly, making it a delight to accompany varied holiday menus. Yesterday was the Beaujolais Nouveau release day, so I excitedly went to one of my largest local wine shops, and quickly became dismayed when I realized they only had a selection of 2 different varieties. I picked both up and will now have to take a small road trip or order online for a better and more numerous selection.
Georges Dubœuf founded Les Vins Georges Dubœuf in 1964 and since then has become one of the largest and most well known French brands., representing more than 400 growers in the Beaujolais region. He is particularly recognised for his achievements in large scale production and marketing of Beaujolais wines, especially the annual “Beaujolais Nouveau phenomenon” which has lead to him being nicknamed “the king of Beaujolais”.
Purple-red in colour with bountiful aromas of cherry, raspberry and blueberry. Blackberry and candied cherry flavours joined refreshing traces of slightly bitter herbs on the clean finish. Fresh and simple, this is an inexpensive, fruity glass for the table.
