Purchased in 1972 by Monsieur d’Arfeuille, Château Tessendey dates back to 1840. The 7 hectare estate is located on the rolling slopes of Fronsac in Saillans. The d’Arfeuille family extensively renovated the vineyards and cellar and has successfully improved the quality of wines produced.
Dark garnet in colour with aromas of cherry, red current and hints of oak. Tart red currant and blackberry flavours were backed by earth and dark chocolate in the compact finish. A little too spare for my taste, but a decent companion for simple dishes.
