I popped open Donelli Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro almost as an aperitif to accompany a late afternoon casual cheese and cracker plate. Founded in 1915 by Aldolfo Donelli, The Donelli Group today consists of over 110 hectares of estate owned vineyards along with 4 other estates including the Del Palio Estate and Gavioloi Wines. They focus on producing quality, value wines that can be internationally exported.
Dark red-violet in colour with the aroma of grape jam. Grape and hints of black currant joined balsalmic elements and super fine bubbles in the semi dry body. Simple, spare and decent with food, I don’t think I’d be inclined to give it a pour again, considering there are other bottles at this price point that far exceed it.
