With the weather forecasting a change to cooler and more seasonal temperatures in the upcoming days, I decided to enjoy a Rosé on a very warm late afternoon. The Valle Dell’Asso estate is located in the Puglia region of southern Italy. It is a family estate established by Donato Vallone in 1820. The property has been passed down from father to son for generations, today it consists of 80 hectares of land and is headed by Don Gino Vallone. Gino continues “the family tradition that from generation to generation has renewed its agreement with the earth” by practicing organic viticulture and using traditional methods such as hand tilling and harvesting. The owl logo of Valle Dell’Asso has its origins in the ancient history of the area and comes from the Greek settlers who depicted the Goddess Athena on their currency with an owl. Gino has a vast art collection of owls, garnered from all over the world that is exhibited in the wine cellar.
Brilliant cranberry red in colour with aromas of cherry, strawberry and rain-washed river stones. Strawberry, raspberry and hints of sour cherry fruits merged into a spicy finish of white pepper with traces of cinnamon. Bright, fun and easy drinking, this is a charismatic glass fantastic for sipping on its own or with light dishes.
