I picked up Standing Stone Vineyards Riesling 2012 since it was one of the New York State wines I had enjoyed at Wine Riot last month and I wanted to drink more than just a little sip. In 1991 Tom and Marti Macinski purchased Standing Stone Vineyards located on the east side of Seneca Lake. Multiple vintners had previously researched and established the suitability and quality of land on the 41 acre estate. The Macinskis were inspired to become winemakers because they “believe that the Finger Lakes region can grow wines that are among the best in the world”.
Pale straw-yellow in colour with aromas of honey, citrus blossom and red apple. Light flavours of pear, lemon and honey were supported by a bright acidity, whilst citrus zest and dry minerals comprised the crisp finish. Straightforward with a good balance of sweet and dry elements, this is a pleasant glass for the table.
