Cobblestone Farm Dry Vignoles 2012

My sister recently visited one of her fiancés relatives who lives quite near one of the Finger Lakes, and whilst she wasn’t able to tour any wineries, she did return with a few local bottles. She brought over Cobblestone Farm Dry Vignoles 2012 for us to enjoy with a pre-dinner snack of cheese and crackers. I wasn’t able to locate many pertinent details on Cobblestone Farm Winery other than it is an 148 acre farm dating back to the early 1800’s and is located on the northwest shore of Cayuga lake in New York State. The Cobblestone Farm Winery website displays information on Varick Winery and Vineyard, not Cobblestone, so I wonder if it is under new ownership? Vignoles is a hybrid white wine grape developed in the 1930’s and primarily used in Eastern North America, especially the Hudson Valley and the Finger Lakes regions.

Straw-yellow in colour with fresh fruit aromas of pineapple and mango. Floral citrus blossom flavours joined pineapple and honey notes in the light body, whilst a balancing, bitter grapefruit zest comprised the crisp finish. Straightforward with a bright acidity this is a pleasant glass for the table.
