The Masseria Li Veli estate is located in the Salice Salentino region of Puglia in southern Italy. The Falvo family purchased the 128 acre estate [of which 86 acres are currently vineyards] in 1999 and set about restoring, preserving and improving its “architectural and historical heritage”. The Falvo family is dedicated to producing forgotten indigenous varietals, crafting wines from grapes such as Primitivo, Negroamaro and Verdeca. They practice organic viticulture and have established a high standard of quality, producing wines from native Puglian grapes that demonstrate the “character and elegance” of the land.
Dark red-violet in colour with aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry and toasted oak. Big flavours of cherry and blackberry joined traces of caramel and earthy woods in the medium body. Spicy black peppercorn and dense raisin notes comprised the moderate finish. Velvety and rustic, this is a well-composed glass fantastic with a wide variety of dishes.
