Romagnoli Tasting- Rosato, Barbarossa & Il Rosso di Casa

Rearranging my wine racks I discovered unbeknownst to myself that I had purchased 3 bottles from Romagnoli Winery during two different trips from Astor Wines in NYC. I had fancied the delightful medieval styled labels and fantastic budget friendly prices and never noticed they were from the same family winery. I came to the conclusion that this was a fantastic opportunity to do a ‘Romagnoli Tasting’! The Romagnoli Winery is a small family run estate established in 1857 and is located in the Marches region in between Tuscany and Umbria along the Adriatic Coast. Passionate about producing traditional wines that express the fruit profile of each individual grape varietal, they utilize classic practices predominately, employing modern methods only where needed, such as thermoregulation tank control. Their philosophy is one of “respecting the great characteristics of the grapes” and can be seen in the family’s motto “Piccoli Produttori – GRAND VINI” [Small Producers-BIG WINES].

Romagnoli Flora Marche Rosato 2012 $9
Cherry-red in colour displaying sweet wildflower, fresh cherry and strawberry aromas, with flavours that harmoniously mirror the aromas. An engaging bitter almond finish and a bright acidity all contribute to its cheery and sociable nature, making it fantastic with a wide variety of light dishes or on its own. [Be careful, the bottle will be empty much faster than you think.]

Il Rosso di Casa Romagnoli 2011 $7
Dark red-violet in colour with aromas of blackberry, toasted oak and earth. Plum and blackberry flavours were drizzled with hints of caramel, joining traces of earthy pencil lead elements and soft round tannins. Friendly and super easy drinking, fantastic with all kinds of pizza and pasta dishes, this is a wonderful everyday glass and a phenomenal value.

Romagnoli Barbarossa Lacrima di Morro d’Alba 2011 $10
Inky red-violet in colour with aromas of sweet cherry, wildflowers and olive. Earthy notes in the medium body supported jammy cherry and blackberry flavours whilst bitter dark chocolate notes comprised the clean finish. Velvety and easy drinking, this a fantastic companion to a wide variety of dishes.
