I was thrilled when I spotted Zestos Rosado 2012 in a wine shop in Cambridge MA. I love the exuberance and value of both the Zestos Garnacha and Malvar, but have not been able to find the Rosado in my local shops. Zestos wines are the product of Manuel Martinez, a 3rd generation winemaker whose family has been producing wine in Madrid for centuries. He owns Viños Jeromin, an organically farmed bodega that crafts wine from 3 different districts within the Madrid DO. The Rosado was sourced from old vine Garnacha vineyards that were planted in 1969. The high elevation, organically farmed vineyards are located in San Martin Valdeiglesias, northwest of Madrid. The region is renowned for its floral, mineral infused wines.
Orange-coral in colour with aromas of strawberries and rain-washed river stones. Strawberry and cherry flavours were complimented by refreshing grapefruit zest and a crisp, dry mineral finish. An excellent value, super easy drinking, and fantastic with light dishes or sipping on its own, this is a bottle that will disappear before you realize it.
