I had enjoyed Château Fantin Bordeaux Rosé 2012 at a tasting at Astor Wines in NYC and promptly purchased a bottle to enjoy home. Chateau Fantin is located southeast of Saint-Emilion on the steep slopes overlooking the Dordogne River. Originally a refuge for monks in the 16th century, the Château has been under the ownership of the Houbaer family since 1890. Today Jean-Michel Chatelier, the great grandson on the maternal side of the family, heads the estate.
Vibrant coral in colour with aromas of strawberry, wet slate and hints of lavender. Fresh strawberry, melon and traces of honeysuckle evolved into a crisp finish of wet stone minerals. Easy drinking and refreshing, this is a cheerful glass with light dishes or sipping on its own.
