The Corbiѐres appellation has been associated with its production of rather cheap table wines, however over the past 20 years things have been slowly changing. Wine producers are adopting a combination of employing modern technology alongside their traditional methods, and are now crafting small production, high quality wines that are still budget friendly. Domaine de Montfin was purchased by Jerome Esteve and his wife just over 10 years ago. The 20 hectare estate is entirely comprised of old vines, the majority dating back to 1930. Esteve practices organic farming, hand harvesting, and uses only indigenous yeasts. Passionate about his care of the soil, vines and respect for nature, he believes that by adding “love, passion and personality” you will get wines of great character.
Dark red-violet in colour, after decanting aromas of sweet raspberry and strawberry jam with hints of earth rose from the glass. Juicy cherry, red currant and black raspberry flavours abounded in the medium body, whilst spicy black pepper and wisps of campfire smoke comprised the moderate finish. Straightforward and easy drinking with a lovely, plush rustic feel, this is a fantastic glass for the table or sipping on its own.
