Lirac is an appellation in the southern Rhone region along the right bank of the Rhone River which has been producing wines since pre-Roman times. It is located across the river from Chateauneuf-du-pape, with whom it shares similarities in terroir and climate. Château de Ségriѐs was purchased by Henri de Lanzac in 1994; it is a family owned and operated 44.5 hectare estate. The family has greatly improved the quality of the wine, today they are known for producing high quality wines at a great value. They focus on the estate’s old vines, many of which were planted by the former owner and date back to 1925.
Inky red-violet in colour, aromas of black cherry and grape jam along with cinnamon swirled about in the glass. Black currant and blueberry flavours were joined by licorice and traces of wild mushroom in the full body. Grippy tannins merged into spicy black peppercorn, rich chocolate and earthy forest elements in the substantial finish. Bold and well structured, this is a robust, velvety glass that will keep you reaching for more.
