Following delightfully cool weather and then terrible storms, the heat and humidity returned once more. After running too many errands in the sweltering late afternoon heat, my sister stopped over for a quick visit. As we relaxed in a combination of central air and then the shaded patio, I gave a pour to The Dreaming Tree Everyday 2012. Legendary musician Dave Matthews and winemaker Steve Reeder share a passion for drinking and making wine, from this dedication stems their goal to produce “quality wine that is accessible to all”. They strive for sustainability in all facets of wine production, from sustainable methods in the vineyard, to bottles that are a quarter pound lighter and manufactured with clean-burning natural gas, to natural corks sourced from sustainable farms. In addition to protecting the environment, part of Winemaker Steve Reeder’s philosophy is that he makes “wines for people to drink. I don’t make wines for people to put in their cellar.”
Pale straw in colour, aromas of honeysuckle and apple radiated from the glass. Pineapple and baked apple flavours were joined by sweet honey notes in the light body. Pink grapefruit and lemon zest comprised the perky finish. Sweet fruit flavours and modest alcohol content make this a lovely glass for summer sipping.
