My husband’s cousin is back from the West Coast, we had missed her terribly for the past 2 years and are excited she is now moving to NYC. We took advantage of her being home for a few days to catch up and enjoy a fun night out with great wine, food and conversation. To accompany my cheese plate loaded with an assortment of locally made cheeses and fresh figs, I selected a glass of Eugen Müller Forster Mariengarten Riesling Kabinett 2011.
Weingut Eugen Müller is a family run estate owned by the Müller family since 1935. Today the estate is headed by Stephan Müller and is renowned for their “mouth-filling, fruity wines, direct and approachable”. Their vineyards include some of the best sites and oldest vines in the Pfalz and are farmed using environmentally friendly methods.
Light gold in colour, aromas of apple and honeysuckle radiated from the glass. Juicy apple and pear flavours were joined by sweet honeycomb and musky floral blossoms in the light to medium body, whilst flinty minerals comprised the crisp finish. Well balanced, this is an easy drinking glass fantastic on its own but can also stand up to hearty summer dishes.
