Bodega Teso La Monja ‘Romanico’ Toro 2010

I picked up Bodega Teso La Monja Romanico Toro 2010 since it was in the “new arrival” section and I fancied its straightforward label with a Romanesque-styled medallion. Teso La Monja was established by the Eguren family in 2007. Winemakers since 1870, the now 5th generation of the Eguren family fell in love with the land of Teso La Monja in the Toro DO due to its pre-phylloxera vines and mineral rich soils. Operating according to the cycles and bio rhythms of the environment, they practice sustainable viticulture and employ innovative technology in the winery.

Inky dark violet in colour, aromas of baking spices and cherry jam on toast swirled about in the glass. Plush blackberry and cherry flavours joined sweet vanilla and earthy tobacco notes in the full body. Smoky crushed black pepper merged with toasty oak, cigar box spice and dark chocolate elements in the luscious finish.  An easy drinking glass with a lush, hearty presence, each velvety sip will keep you reaching for more.
