Since 2010 is a fantastic vintage year for Chianti Classico, I thought I’d try my luck with a value priced 2010 Chianti. Badia di Morrona was founded by the Gaslini family in 1939 and is located in the Pisan Hills between Florence and Pisa. It is one of four Benedictine monasteries that were founded in the 11th century by Count Fucecchio. The 500 hectare family estate is dedicated to both viticulture and farming [olive groves and grains].
Dark garnet in color with aromas of cherry, leather and balsamic. Aged in stainless steel and concrete, juicy baked cherry pie flavours joined smooth leather elements in the medium to full body. Spicy crushed black peppercorn was joined by bitter dark chocolate, toast and caramel traces in the lengthy finish. Rich and plush, this is a fantastic everyday glass at the table or sipping on its own.
