As I’m always on the lookout for tasty value wines, I was enthusiastic to give Circa Toscana Rosso 2011, an $8 red blend from Tuscany a pour. Cantina Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano is a cooperative founded in 1972 and consists of 152 members. Their 400 hectares of vineyards are spread across the hills surrounding the town of Scansano in the province of Grosseto in Tuscany. The cooperative is recognised as one of the most important producers in the Tuscan Maremma region [southwestern Tuscany].
Dark red-garnet in colour, after aerating aromas of cherry, earthy dried leaves and traces of balsamic swirled about in the glass. Cherry, black current and plum flavours joined soft tannins in the medium body. White pepper, hints of dark chocolate and dried cherry elements comprised the respectable finish. Straightforward and easy drinking, this is a fantastic value and great at the table.
70% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 5% Alicante
Produced and bottled by Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano, S.c.a.
