Michel Gassier ‘Cercius’ Côtes du Rhône 2011

As you all know by now, I absolutely adore Côtes du Rhône wines. I will consistently pick up a bottle every time I’m in a wine shop so I continually have a decent selection inhabiting my bottle racks. Michel Gassier is a 4th generation winemaker with a firm commitment to live in harmony with nature and that “each wine should be a voyage of the senses”. Since converting the 70 hectare family estate that has vineyards located in an EU habitat zone to organic farming, he has noticed a marked increase in biodiversity. He is ardent in his belief that in “letting our terroir speak through our wines, we transmit a bit of our place on this Earth in each bottle”.

Dark red-violet in colour, decadent aromas of blackberry, chocolate and licorice swirled about in the glass. Aged for 6 months in concrete tanks, vibrant black currant, cherry and blackberry flavours were underscored by earthy leather elements in the medium to full body. Spicy black pepper, sweet cinnamon and just the slightest traces of earthy, smoky peat comprised the lengthy finish. Integrated fruit and earthy spices create a well-balanced sip wonderful for the table or enjoying on its own.
