Creta Roble 2010

Creta [meaning chalk and referring to the “extraordinary chalk soil” of the vineyards] is a collaboration between famed wine importer Eric Solomon and winemaker Isaac Fernández Montaña, the nephew of Mariano Garcia, one of Spain’s finest winemakers. The back label conveys wine info in the very same fun ‘who what where when why’ manner as the Altovinum Evodia Old Vine Garnacha label, another Eric Solomon partnership. The grapes for this vintage were sourced from Pago de Cabarroso, a 70 year old vineyard located at the highest altitude in the Ribera del Duero.

Dark red-violet in colour, after aerating aromas of wild flowers, sweet woods and clean minerals rose from the glass. Blackberry and black cherry flavours abounded in the full body. Cigar box spice and hints of dark chocolate comprised the lengthy finish. Straightforward and easy drinking, this is a dense, warmly spiced glass great on its own or at the table.
