Rocca della Macìe Chianti Classico Famiglia Zingarelli 2010

Reviewers and importers alike have declared that 2010 is a fantastic vintage for Chianti Classico, so I was enthusiastic to pour Rocca della Macìe Chianti Classico Famiglia Zingarelli 2010. Rocca della Macìe was established in 1973 by film and TV producer Italo Zingarelli when he purchased the 85 hectare Le Macìe estate. Located in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone, only 2 hectares contained vines at the time. In 1989, Italo’s youngest son Sergio took over as Company President, and today the estate encompasses more than 600 hectares with 200 hectares as vineyards and 80 as olive groves. The Chianti Classico Famiglia Zingarelli was “born along with the winery” and over the years has established itself as the Estate’s ambassador to their many selections of wines.

Transparent ruby in colour, after decanting for about 30 minutes bountiful aromas of dried rose petal, warm leather, baking spices, cherry and hints of woodsy oak swirled about.  Black cherry and blueberry flavours were supported by smooth, dry tannins in the medium to full body. Spicy black pepper, nutmeg, dried cherry and traces of toasty oak carried the finish along. Well structured layers of delicate floral notes along with sturdy spice and fruit make this an enjoyable, easy drinking glass.
