Domaine des Mariaudes Lulune Beaune Blanc 2009

I was making wild grain rice overflowing with a local chipotle chevre and New Zealand cheddar and suddenly found myself fancying a white wine for a change.  I had my husband decide between 2 Chardonnays that were calling my name; he chose Domaine des Mariaudes Lulune Beaune Blanc 2009. Domaine des Mariaudes is owned by Château Génot-Boulanger, an independent producer located in Meursault. Owning vineyards across 32 appellations, the family’s philosophy is “The vine carries too many hopes within to not be cultivated with the utmost care”. For the past 10 years the family has farmed in the “lutte raisonnée” manner and since 2007 they have been fully organic. The vineyard is named Lulune after the ancient Celtic settlement that existed within the Beaune appellation roughly 1500 years ago.

Light golden yellow in colour, aromas of summer apple, white grape and lemon swirled about. Bright melon and apple flavours were joined by lemon and the slightest hints of custard in the light to medium body. Zippy citrus zest and flinty minerals comprised the snappy finish. Elegant and subtle, this is a modest and lovely companion at the table.
