San Felice ‘Contrada di San Felice’ Toscana 2010

I picked up San Felice ‘Contrada di San Felice’ Toscana 2010 because I fancied the label, and my great-grandfather’s name was Felice. Located in Tuscany, Agricola San Felice is part of the Gruppo Allianz S.p.A. and consistently produces wines noted for their quality and value. The estate focuses on environmental protection and scientific research, specifically developing the “qualities inherent in Sangiovese”, studying the behavior and patterns of non-Tuscan grapes growing in Chianti, and re-grafting vines. This blend was originally created to be served at historical celebration banquets for the local village districts.

Dark ruby with a brick-garnet rim, aromas of dried cherry and forest swirled about in the glass. Juicy blackberry and tart cherry flavours were joined by a bright acidity and silky smooth tannins in the medium body. Spicy green peppercorn and earthy dried thyme notes comprised the moderate finish. Vibrant and friendly, this is a fantastic easy drinking glass for the table, or on its own.
