Fairview Wines: Tasting 12.15.12

Rather conveniently I timed visiting my sister with a wine tasting at the fantastic wine shop near her house, Fairview Wines & Spirits. NYC transplants Lewis and Risa Dimm have for decades now been carefully selecting a tantalizing scope of wines that highlight family owned vineyards, along with sustainable, biodynamic and organic viticulture in their Hudson, NY wine shop. From super affordable $7 Côte du Rhône gems to delectable $150 Napa Valley Cabernets they offer a range of distinctive bottles for every budget. Their Saturday tasting offered a selection of French, American and Spanish wines:
La Forét des Dames Vieilles Vignes Sancerre Réserve 2011
La Forét des Dames is a family estate with old vines Sauvignon Blanc in Saint Satur in the Loire Valley. The family are not winemakers, so they sell their entire production to négociant Laurent Gerard.
Vibrant lime, apricot and floral aromas, delightfully light and crisp, with flinty minerals, zesty lemongrass, and bright peach and apricot flavours.

Domaine Desvignes Ainé & Fils Chablis 2011
Located in the heart of Burgundy, Desvignes Ainé & Fils is a family run estate passed down from generation to generation.
Pleasantly dry with a bright acidity, nutty with stone minerals and a warm buttery finish.

Robert Sinsky Los Carneros Pinot Noir 2009
Robert Sinsky has over 200 acres of premium vineyards in the Carneros and Stags Leap areas of Napa and Sonoma Valleys. He farms organically and biodynamically creating individualistic wines that leave a minimal footprint on the land. He is on a stellar mission to make wines that “sneak up on you, seduce you, and evolve in the glass and in the bottle”.
Fantastically earthy and spicy, with complex layers of cherry, forest floor, violets, warm baking spices and toasty oak.

Cesca Vicent Priorat 2010
A family owned winery with vineyards dating back to the 1400’s, today the owner and winemaker is Francesca Vicent. Her ancestors have been producing wine for centuries; she practices organic viticulture and is focused on terroir and he expression of varietal character. She even has created a detailed map of her entire estate with the 11 different types of soil she has found.
Dense and earthy, with ripe cherry and grape, green olives, tobacco leaf and sweet smoky vanilla notes.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha blend
