Arrogant Frog Lily Pad Red 2010

I purchased Arrogant Frog Lily Pad Red 2010 simply because I found the name clever and the label illustration charming in that it reminded me of a much loved Frog and Toad  book from my childhood. Winemaker Jean-Claude Mas is the man behind the “Humble Vintner”. He took the reins of his family’s estate, Domaines Paul Mas in 2000, and since then has been a pioneer in crafting premium wines with authenticity and refinement at reasonable prices. Additionally, he is a regional leader in eco-friendly winemaking practices. He farms the land in harmony with the surrounding environment; he respects and preserves each vineyard’s individuality by employing sustainable agriculture. With a motto of “Old World wines with New World attitude”, he believes that with passion, creativity and a sense of humor, he can craft wines “that burst with personality and express perfectly their unique terroirs.

Purple with ruby highlights in colour, after aerating rich aromas of cherry, pink peppercorn and hints of woodsy oak and vanilla swirled about in the glass. Cherry and red current flavours were embraced by smooth, soft tannins whilst traces of dried thyme materialized intermittently in the medium body. Spicy black pepper notes were joined by toasty oak and warm mocha elements in the moderate finish. Friendly and easy drinking, this is a wonderful value and a superb everyday glass for the table.
