On a trip to Manchester VT, I picked up Montinore Estate Pinot Noir 2010. I was so enthusiastic about this winery as I had just read a fantastic article in Imbibe magazine on their modern, progressive biodynamic techniques. Montinore Estate is a family owned and operated winery with 230 acres of vineyards in the northern Williamette Valley. After many years of overseeing operations Rudy Marchesi purchased the Estate in 2005, and today he and his daughter Kristin farm all 230 acres using strict Biodynamic methods and are Demeter certified. Their farm is a self-sustaining ecosystem that maintains all of its needs, without the addition of any unnatural substances. They strive to bring distinct varietal character to the forefront, and craft their wines for the dinner table, highlighting “the values of a well-lived life, one that includes the enjoyment of food and wine with friends and family”. The January/February 2012 issue of Imbibe magazine featured a wonderful, comprehensive article on Rudy, his passions, the vineyards, and biodynamic practices. Check it out for fantastic details about the Estate.
Transparent strawberry garnet in colour, aromas of fresh cherry, pink peppercorn spice and woodland flowers radiated from the glass. Fresh and refined flavours of strawberry, cherry and blackberry were fortified by dry green tea tannins in the light to medium body. Spicy black pepper and earthy, woodsy, cedar elements propelled the moderate finish. This is an easy drinking glass abounding with clean, competent flavours that enjoys a meal and smart conversation.
