Cycles Gladiator Pinot Noir 2010

As we were grilling brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar and shallots, I found myself fancying a fruity glass and almost reached for a Beaujolais, but I felt like having a bit more depth, so I gave Cycles Gladiator Pinot Noir 2010 a pour. Cycles Gladiator is part of the great Hahn Family of Wines and is their very budget friendly, accessible label. Cycle Gladiator’s grapes are sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Lodi appellation. The Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing is California’s first 3rd party certified sustainable winegrowing organization. Their region-wide standards include practices such as enhancing soil and water health, biodiversity and employee well-being.
Brilliant, translucent ruby-garnet in colour, striking aromas of summer strawberry and earthy, spicy cloves rose from my glass. Silky smooth tannins complimented bright berry flavours of strawberry and raspberry in the medium body. Earthy elements and smoky cedar were polished with lush vanilla notes in the lengthy finish. A wonderful fusion of New World fruitiness and Old World earthiness makes this a fantastic glass on it’s own or at the table.
