Cusumano Syrah 2010

When my husband and I were in Montreal in April for his hockey tournament, I had picked up a few bottles at SAQ’s that I knew I couldn’t find in the States. I cellared one, and have been rationing out the other ones over the past few months. I was enthusiastic when I had seen Cusumano Syrah 2010 in the Montreal shop since I adored the two other Cusumano wines [and their glass stoppers] I’ve had. The recipients of many accolades, the Cusumano brothers have diversified estates throughout Sicily that enable them to choose the best location for each grape variety and to focus on producing affordable, terroir driven wines.

Dark violet with red-violet highlights in colour, after aerating, cozy winter baking aromas of ginger, clove, cinnamon and plum curled up in my glass. Jammy flavours of blackberry and cherry abounded with hints of vanilla elements in the medium to full body. Velvety tannins ushered in the exuberant finish comprised of spicy black pepper, rich dark chocolate and traces of toasty oak. Easy drinking and sociable, this is a great glass for the table.
