The combination of summer heat and grilling seems to me to be the perfect opportunity for a Rosé. As I let baby potatoes soak up olive oil and rosemary before placing them on the grill, I reached for a glass of JP Azeitao Rosé 2011. Founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Sons, Bacalhôa Wines now owns wineries in the most important regions of Portugal. Always investing in innovative technology, “Art, Wine and Passion” is the theme that they strive to create throughout all of their estates. Their goal is to produce high quality wines that offer “unique and interesting experiences”.
Delightful peachy-pink in colour, aromas of juicy cherry and strawberry mingled with rose petals in my glass. Fresh summer berry flavours of strawberry and raspberry converged with ripe pear and rich honey notes in the light to medium body. Spicy white pepper and clean minerals comprised the zippy finish. Fruity and refreshing, this is a fantastic glass on its own or with summer meals.
