After our appetizers and Valpolicella, we fancied a simple, classic red table wine to accompany dinner, as we were all ordering vastly different dishes. We selected La Monica Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2010 since we were looking for an easy going, soft yet rustic glass to partner with my creamy pesto 4 cheese raviolis, my husband’s seafood pasta, and my sister and her fiancé’s enormous family style sampler platter of just about everything on the menu.
Dark red-garnet in colour, aromas of dried leaves and cherry blossoms rose from my glass. The medium body displayed hearty cherry flavours and a well-balanced acidity. Woodsy and herbal tobacco notes merged with rich vanilla in the moderate finish. Rustic and smooth, this is a friendly glass enjoyed best at the table.
