The winery’s name derives from the owner’s ancestors being bakers in England, where their primary ware was a dense round loaf called a cakebrede.
Dark ruby in colour, the aroma of black current jam on toast rose alluringly from my glass. Fruity flavours of blackberry and cherry entwined with savory summer herbal notes and traces of smoke encompassed the full body. Spicy black pepper merged with toasty oak and hints of velvety chocolate in the lengthy finish. Well-structured and elegant, this makes for a refined yet friendly glass that you will keep you reaching for more.
