With all the holiday related travel and activities I knew we had coming up, I picked up the Sofia Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine 4pack cans. I had a feeling that the sparkling wine inside would taste like the aluminum can it’s housed in, but the ability to inconspicuously enjoy a conveniently sized beverage in any situation, plus the little pink bendy straw that comes attached to each can prevailed.
I thought it best to give it a try while I was still home, just in case it was not so good. Hidden beneath the inevitable metallic, aluminum can taste were traces of granny smith apple and juicy melon. The bubbly finish, whilst on the short side, showed off bright acidity and smatterings of sweet honey. Clearly there is potential here. The few sips I had taken left the right amount of room for the addition of gorgeous fruity Chambord. With that addition I have a perfectly incognito cocktail that can travel with me anywhere, i.e. movie theatre, shopping mall, hockey game [although you all know I utilize a nalgene bottle of wine for that particular activity]. If you are looking to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, the canned Sofia is not for you. However, if you have a need for a discreet portable beverage, the Sofia would be a suitable selection.
