Takler Noir Gold Kékfrankos Reserve 2004

My second selection culled from my sisters wine closet was the Takler Noir Gold Kékfrankos Reserve 2004. I was enthusiastic to investigate this bottle as Hungarian wines don’t heavily populate the shelves of most wine shops. Additionally, I have heard that the best Kékfrankos hails from Szekszárd, so I was excited to pop the cork.

In hefty contrast to the velvety, inky dark purple colour, aromas of rose and light oak swirled about in my glass. Black cherry and blueberry flavours were complimented by a refreshing minerality and firm, smooth tannins. The elongated finish divulged deep, dark woodsy notes interwoven amongst smoky tobacco and chocolate, concluding with just the slightest suggestion of rose. Smooth, spirited and eloquent, each sip was like meandering along on an enchanted woodland path.

13.5% Alcohol
Enjoy now through 2015
