In the spirit of Halloween, my sister came over with a bottle of The Waxed Bat. This was yet another bottle that I had noticed in the wine shop and originally passed on, while she was enthusiastic to give it a pour. The buzz everywhere is that Argentina is really excelling in producing accessible, fruit forward wines that are easy on the wallet. So I figured it was a good opportunity to pour a bottle that I wouldn’t have typically selected.
After aerating, aromas of violet and cherry emanated from the dark garnet colour in the glass. Smoky, plump cherry and plum flavours rounded out the medium to full body. The lengthy finish smoldered with black pepper and tapered off with earthy cinnamon notes. Each glass overflowed with smooth jammy fulfillment, while the simple yet well-balanced structure delivered a polished, easy-drinking essence not readily found in budget friendly bottles.
